A Solemn Sound

"Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound." Psalm 92:3

Mankind has always been fascinated by music. Oftentimes we forget that just as our flesh likes music a certain way, God wants his music to be in a certain manner as well. The above-quoted verse shows us exactly what God wants his music to sound like: solemn. Synonyms for the word solemn include words like: austere, grave, intense, pensive, sober, weighty, formal. Since 'solemn' is a Bible word, lets go back and see where the word is first mentioned.

"And the famine was sore in the land. And it came to pass, when they had eaten up the corn which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said unto them, Go again, buy us a little food. And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you." Genesis 43:1-3.

Now if you are a well-versed Bible reader, you know just how stern and strict Joseph was with his brethren. Joseph's gravity got so intense that after his brethren found out that the silver cup was in Benjamin's sack that they rent their garments, and Judah repeatedly pleaded with Joseph calling him lord six times within the chapter (Genesis 44). That being said, there is a specific phrase that I want to elaborate on that is used in the same breath when the word 'solemn' is mentioned for the very first time. That phrase is "Ye shall not." This is an imperative statement, meaning that it is issuing a command. Interestingly, the first authority figure in the Bible to use this exact same imperative is God himself.

"But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." Genesis 2:17

Don't get confused. Remember that 'thou' is the singular form of the word 'ye'. Same meaning, just different number. Now ask yourself this question, just how weighty is was when Adam and Eve disobeyed the commandment of God. It cost all of humanity. It cost the blood of Christ. Is this not intense? Is this not solemn? A good biblical definition for the word solemn would be 'something to be taken seriously; formal'.
This lets us see just how the solemn assemblies in the Bible were esteemed. If we were to look at some of the assemblies within the reign of the kings, we'd see just how much godly fear and rejoicing there was. When King Solomon had finished dedicating the Temple and the Lord answered by fire, the scripture says that the people "....bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever." 2 Chronicles 7:3. And in the proceeding verses we see the King and the people offering an astounding amount of sacrifices to the Lord.  King Solomon offered 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep. That's a total of 142,000 hooves for the Lord, plus what the people offered. This clearly displays just how serious their assemblies were; they were willing to give their livelihood to please the Lord as they rejoiced with trembling. There was great weight and matter in their service to God.
Now that we see how the congregation in the Bible was, lets compare it to what we see today. Would you describe the average non-denominational, evangelical, or even baptist church as 'solemn'? Or would you describe it as 'provocative', 'informal', or 'trivial'? I would say the latter. Please understand that the Good Lord wants us to dance with the joy of the Lord as David did, but do it with trembling. That means one would not dare dane provocatively before a church as we see in many charismatic and Pentecostal churches. The speaking of gibberish, running around, barking like a dog, and constant sobbing makes their assemblies look trivial and momentary. There is nothing formal about acting like a monkey in church. If we apply this concept to dance and motion, we can apply it to song and music.
Ask yourself this question in all common sense, what solemnity is there in 'Our God is an Awesome God'? What fear of God is there in songwriters and bands like 'Mercy Me', 'Casting Crowns', Kirk Franklin, Lecrae, or TobyMac as they blatantly defy the commandment of God found in Romans 12:1-2 to "be not conformed to this world". We all speak English here. We know that the definition for the word conform is 'to be or become similar in form, nature, or character; to pattern after. 'How can one say, "I love God through music" as his music transgresses the commandment of God?
God commands us to sing praises with understanding (Psalm 47:7). What did you learn about God after listening to TobyMac? What new verse came to your mind after you heard those bars from Lecrae? After you have repeated 'Our God is an awesome God' for the hundredth time, do you finally understand the lesson of the song now. Nope, probably not, sing it again.
The sound of the music we sing should be solemn. The content of the songs we sing must be scriptural. The heart we should have when singing should be fear towards God; for the song and music ought to be directing your heart and mind to God, not at the magical voice of the artist.
In the Old Testament, the priests sung in courses to God night and day (1 Chronicles 9:33). The singing in the temple was collective, not selective. The priests didn't take turns singing specials. I promise you that when we get to heaven we will never see an angel step out of chorus to try and bedazzle the saints with his lovely voice. Why? Because the intention must match the direction.
Believe me, the church special is well intended, but what is the direction of the music? Is everyone thinking, or are they listening? Reflecting on God isn't taking place as the artist steps up to over-sing and ruin a hymn with the intention of wowing everyone with their talent. Countless celebrities such as John Legend, Whitney Houston, Usher, and Katy Perry  all started out singing in church. What do you think could have prevented their major downfall? If they sat down in with the rest of the congregation and all sung in harmony with their hearts to the Lord, or if they would occasionally get up and please the ears of their fellow church-goers?
Don't make the mistake of assuming that these people used to sing for God and now they sing for millennials. The truth is that they never sung for God, they sung for the approval of man. They sung to hear that "that really touched me", after the service. Or the blatant, "you have an amazing gift." Their efforts in rehearsal may be intended for the church but not directed to its God. What happens is that people start to covet vainglory. They are so used to people extolling them that they get mad when someone else is asked to sing the special instead of them. They become competitive and their prize is self-glory.
The opposition to this thesis may say that "when the people came to the temple, or were present at the assemblies, they would marvel at the harmonious melody coming from the priests". This assumption is greatly misguided because it assumes that the priests were singing to please men. Remember that the priests would sing day and night, regardless of whether or not people were there or not. This disproves the assumption that their singing was geared toward the tickling of ears. The singing was done for the glory of God, not for performance.
I briefly touched on this earlier, but oversinging is the leaven that is in so many churches today. If you've heard Whitney Houston before you know exactly what I'm talking about. Oversinging is when the singer sings too much. They stress words in a song that shouldn't be stressed and even strain their voice beyond their normal range. Oversinging is attempted by singers on American Idol to impress judges. It often looks stupid, but some people pull it off. The point of oversinging is to impress. It is to bedazzle the ears with 'talent'. If you've seen Sunday's Best, you've probably felt the same disgust I have. There is nothing solemn about this phenomena. Oversinging is competitive and comparative by nature. It is used to 'get ahead' in competitions and 'sound like' our favorite artists.
Isn't it strange that something that brings glory to self would be prevalent in churches today? Isn't the whole point of singing psalms and hymns to bring glory to God? The true praisers of God don't want to be put on stage, they want God to be there in their hearts. If you've read the Bible you know that God puts more emphasis on the lyrics of the song than the music or melody of the song. How? He preserved the words, not the sheet music. On the contrary, the music or melody is overemphasized in many churches and secular listeners so much that the words are disregarded. Why do you think we as Christians often catch ourselves singing worldly songs from the past? It isn't the dirty lyrics that hooks us, it's the beat and the awesome guitar solo. People want to hear that amazing voice instead of "Amazing Grace".
The very fact that it's called a "Church Special" should send a red flag. What's so special about you singing to God. Arn't we all commanded to sing? Is God pleased with your voice over mine? Yet this mentality was contrived from the principle of oversinging: to bewilder the listeners. If our emphasis was on being filled with the Holy Spirit, we would sing music that emphasizes the word of God-doctrine over the music. Music is important to God. He lists to us the instruments he wants us to used in Psalm 150 (Hmm...drums aren't here). God wants to hear a lovely sound, but he also wants a fearful, lovely heart towards him.
Throughout America instead of finding the old-fashioned austere, grave, but glad atmosphere in churches, the pleasure-seeking and provocative is usually the ambience. This is evidenced by a rise of people going to church to 'feel good', or to 'get that load off their chest' instead of being biblically edified and exhorted by believers. God commands us to sing, the special commands us to listen. We want to please our appetites then be told that they are wrong when the song is over and the preaching begins. This hypocrisy is destroying us. We are not putting difference between the holy and the profane. What is happening today is exactly what had happened to ancient Israel and Judah: truth is become relative; the proud are called happy; and sentimental is considered spiritual.

Woe Unto the Pastors

Image result for pastors

We are living in a day where hardly any good churches can be found. With the exception of a few, Independent Baptist Churches are corrupting like crazy.  With doctrinal errors like: Zionism, the pre-trib rapture, repent of your sins salvation, and false Bible versions, God's people are being scattered.
The question is why are we being scattered? Why is it so hard to find a good Baptist Church that does not compromise truth? Why are so many Baptist Churches allowing false doctrines to creep in? The reason is behind the leaders: the Pastors.

Jeremiah 23:1-2 reads, "Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the Lord. Therefore thus saith the Lord God of Israel against the pastors that feed my people; Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the Lord."

The reason why God's people have no Church is because of the Pastors. God has set Pastors to rule the flock rule the flock (1 Tim 5:17), and they will have to give an account of the Church (Heb 13:17).
In this post, I'm going to give you three reasons why Christians are leaving their Church homes; as a result they are turning to the world, and why Pastors are bringing destruction to themselves.

1) The Pastors are Covetous

Ezekiel 22:25 reads, "There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst thereof."

This point is pretty obvious. Pastors today are more interested in you buying their books than you reading your own dusty Bible. God said in Proverbs 23:23 "Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding." Ya hear that Tony Evans? Ya hear that Bob Gray Sr.? Ya hear that Brian Mosley? Men like these are the reason why people have lost their trust for the local Church.
I remember my first year of soul-winning. When I knocked on people's doors, sometimes they thought I was asking them for money. I hadn't even said anything but "I go to a Baptist Church". That was enough for them to think I was some covetous wolf.
False prophets give Churches bad reputations. Paul said in Galatians 5:12 in regard to False prophets, "I would they were even cut off which trouble you." God knew that whenever you have wolves and sheep together, you have trouble. Again, it is written, "Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?" -1 Corinthians 5:6.
If you have one corrupt man selling his corruption, then every man becomes corrupt. If you have one corrupt cell, you have cancer, and it spreads. God said in 1 Corinthians 12:25 "That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another." You can't have the same care one for another when there is a schism; two sick people can't make each other well. It takes somethingthat is not touched by the filth of the sickness to make something well: God's word.
When God's people stop reading their books and start reading their Bibles, there would not be so much deception. God said in 1 Corinthians 14: 29, "Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge." When the Pastor is preaching a sermon, you are supposed to be judging what he's saying, making sure that it is what the Bible says. And if you don't know how to do this and you're a man, you need to get serious, or else people will keep making money off of you.

"But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not."
                                                                                              2 Peter 2:1-3

2) The Pastors don't win souls

Jeremiah 23:1-2 reads, "Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the Lord. Therefore thus saith the Lord God of Israel against the pastors that feed my people; Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the Lord."

There is another spiritual truth we can gain from this passage, and that is soul-winning or visitation. God commands the Pastor to "...do the work of an evangelist" in 2 Timothy 4:5. Sadly, the alter call has substituted soul-winning in many churches. The alter call make Churches lazy because no one goes soul-winning like God commanded. In Luke chapter 10:1, Jesus sent his apostles out two by two into every city WHERE HE WAS ALSO GOING TO GO!!! Jesus didn't send out his apostles and he remained lazy. He went as well.
When Pastors don't win souls, they become stupid. I'm not saying that out of disrespect, I'm saying that because that is what God said in Proverbs 11:30 where it reads "The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise." That goes for every Christian. If you don't get people saved, you are a fool. Sorry for actually telling you the truth this Sunday.
I can't stress how important this subject is. This one point would require an entire blog post.
Pastors as well as saints need to win souls for Christ.

Acts 5:42 "And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ."

3)Pastors Don't Preach the Bible

Isaiah 56:10 "His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber."

This verse can't be truer. If you understand why people used dogs, they were not for pets. Dogs, among many uses, can be used for protection; therefore we have "watchdogs". The signal that a watchdog uses to alert is his loud, powerful bark.
God is saying that the Pastors are dumb dogs that cannot bark. They love to sleep and let the enemy come in unnoticed. The Pastor is supposed to preach against sin, false doctrine, and false prophets. God commands Pastors in Isaiah 58:1, "Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins." Agains he says in Ezekiel 6:11, " Thus saith the Lord God; Smite with thine hand, and stamp with thy foot, and say, Alas for all the evil abominations of the house of Israel! for they shall fall by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence."  God wants Pastors to scream or cry against sin.
Timothy is told in 2 Timothy 4:2, "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine." Reproving someone is when you calmly and politely tell them they are wrong. Rebuke is when you sternly and aggressively tell someone they are wrong. God wants Pastors to be able to point out and REBUKE sin.
God commands Pastors in 1 Timothy 5:20, “Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.” And God expects Pastors to name names. Paul did this several times in his epistles to Timothy. He did it in 1 Timothy 1:20, 2 Timothy 1:15, 2 Timothy 2:17-18, and 2 Timothy 4:10. God wants Pastors to preach against Tony Evans, Joyce Meyer, Joel Osteen, Jonathan Cahn, Bob Gray Sr., Bishop Jakes, Pope Francis, Steven Furtick, Billy Graham, and Desmond Tutu. These men and women are leading people to hell and no one even cares.
The problem with the sermons in Baptist Churches today is not what they do cover, it's what they don't cover. It isn't what Pastors do preach, it's what they are not preaching. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are wonderful books of the Bible, but what about Esther, Malachi, Hosea, Nahum, Ezekiel, Romans, Revelation, 1 John, and Hebrews? Salvation is a wonderful sermon topic, but the majority of the Church should be saved, if not, there is a massive problem. God designed the Church to be for the saved. You can only call your church a church if it has saved people, or else it's just an assembly. Church is the assembly of believers, not a building.
Christians already are saved; therefore we don't need every Sunday sermon to be about: grace, love, forgiveness, charity, and John 3:16. All of these topics are wonderful, but you cannot exclude the other important vitamins necessary to live a godly life. Doctrines regarding: separation from the world, marriage, the death penalty, end-times bible prophecy, soul-winning, sodomy, feminism, and abortion are not being touched with a ten-foot pole. Why? Because Pastors are scared.
They know that if they preach what God says about sodomy, half their choir would have to be thrown out of the Church. They know if they preach what God says about feminism that their Church secretaries would quit. They know if they preach what the Bible says about separation, half of their Church would leave.
The reason why they gained these big congregations without preaching the Bible is because they preach to please men.  Galatians 1:10 says,

“For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.”

The Elders today do not serve Christ; they seek to tickle ears with fancy cliches. Dead Churches exist because of dead pulpits, void of the whole counsel of God.
Don't get me wrong, if your Pastor is doing a study on the Book of Matthew, God bless him. What I'm concerned about is what will he preach when he gets to chapter 7 verse 6? What is he going to say when Jesus starts calling names in Matthew 23? I'm concerned that your Pastor will exclude out the negative verses in favor of a positive sermon.
Hopefully, when you start reading your Bible cover to cover you'll see that most of the Bible is negative. The beginning of the book is Adam being thrown out of paradise. The end of the book is God judging and punishing the inhabitants of the earth. Despite the lies you've been told, God is not only love, but he is also holy, just, and jealous.
God created light and darkness. He creates good and evil. “I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.” –Isaiah 45:7.
Instead of believing everything you hear, read the Bible and judge for yourself. In these days, hardly anyone cares about the truth.

“ For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;”
                                                                                               -2 Timothy 4:3

The Sins of Movie Theatres

Image result for movie theatre

"I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me"  -Psalm 101:3

The primary  sin of going to the movie theatre is what you are watching. Today, movies are filled with smut and garbage that God hates. Whether you're watching "Man of Steel"  or "Grown Ups", movies are filled with blasphemous slurs against Christ, and abominable acts of sin.
A lot of people only pay attention to swear words when it comes to 'little ears'. But that is the least of your problems. The taking of God's name in vain is what you ought to be concerned about. I know so many Christians who watch movies that use blasphemous terms against Christ. As they watch these movies, they too start to take God's name in vain. God said in Exodus 20:7 that he wouldn't hold you guiltless if you take his name in vain. This is the first sin of the movie theatre. They allow and promote the blasphemy of Jesus Christ.
The second sin of the movie theatre is that you are watching sin. There is a fornication, sodomite, and adultery scene in nearly every movie. The movies aren't getting better folks. God said that we ought not to put wicked things before our eyes.
Now a lot of people will look at the rating of a movie. "G", "PG" or even "PG-13"  will probably be your excuse as to why you can watch movies. As long as they are not "R" rated. "PG-13" movies will include the use of profanity, violence, and sexual content. All of these things are sin. Ephesians 4:29 says, "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers." Now I'm not talking about Bible words like "hell", "damn", "ass", "bastard", or "whore" themselves. I'm talking about the "F" word, the "S" word, or any other profane slanderous term that is used under the sun.
"PG" movies are no different. They will use blasphemous terms like: "Jeez", "Oh my God/gosh", or "Jesus Christ" as an expletive. "G" movies are the same as well. Disney movies have subliminal messages even in the disc covers. They will use the same blasphemous terms as in "PG" movies. And Disney movies often includes the wrong message. In "Beauty in the Beast", a woman basically commits bestiality in order for her dog she fell in love with to become a man. In "the Princess and the Frog", the woman kisses the from, a bestial act, in order for the frog to turn into a man. Disney movies also include witchcraft and sorcery. "Harry Potter" and "The Chronicles or Narnia" are two mainstream Disney movies that promote and encourage kids to be witches and sorcerers.
Ask yourself, why do we have so many gothic teens? Why are kids into piercing themselves? Why are kids into drugs? All of these practices are used by occult religions for invoking what the Bible calls "familiar spirits".
There is nothing positive about the rating of the movie. God hates sin, and if you love God you will too. There is no excuse for the rating of the movie.
The third reason why movies are wrong is because they glorify sinful people. Every Hollywood whore, and whoremonger are promoted across the screen. These "actors" are fooling you. Our world call them "celebrities", God calls them "an abomination. God said in Luke 16:15,

"And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God."

Britney Spears, Leonardo DiCaprio, Lebron James, Kanye West,  Brad Pitt, and BeyoncĂ© are all an abomination in the sight of God. Why? Because they are "highly esteemed", they are deified in our society. Kanye West has even wrote his own "bible" where he replaces "God" with "Kanye". God is a Jealous God. People don't have to admit they worship these people when they want to touch the skirt of their robes on stage like the woman did to Jesus. When they want to follow them wherever they go like Jesus told us to do. When they want to religiously listen to their music and interviews and study their lives as we read the Bible.
There is no question about it. These are truly the gods of America. They preach it in their music, teach it on their platforms, and promote it with their names.
Half of the people in Hollywood are sodomites. Leonardo DiCaprio's played as a homosexual in the movie "Total Eclipse". Will Smith played as a homosexual in "Six Degrees of Separation". Jaden Smith is a cross dresser who has been French kissed by his father on live television. Ellen "Degenerate" is a lesbian.  Lady Gaga has said that lesbians are "more daring than men". And Caitlyn Jenner is a damned transsexual!
These are the people you make rich when you buy their movie tickets. I frankly don't want my money going to a bunch of paedophiles and dogs. I'd rather make better investments. The reason why these people can pretty much perform whatever act on screen is because the Bible says they are "past feeling" in Ephesians 4:19.
You may wonder why the media and politics pay so much attention to the opinions celebrities? The reason why is because the people are more interested in following the degeneracy of their gods than the truth of the Bible.
Psalm 101:6 reads, "Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land....". These Hollywood actors are the most unfaithful people in our nation. That's why I call them whores and whoremongers because each and every one of them has either been divorced several times or is in a  premarital relationship for s short period of time.
There are many other factors as to why it is wrong to watch Hollywood movies. But  the same person who reads this post and has a TV in their home, is just as guilty as someone who is sitting in the theatre right now. We as believers need to stay away from the sins of this world. We need to stay away from the gods of this world. The reason why the divorce rate is so high, whoredom is ok, and sodomy is cool and trendy is because people in America are following the doctrines of their gods.
If you are a Christian that loves God, you will keep his commandments. If you are like some of the Christians I know that disregard the Word of God for the sake of their pleasure, you will fail in life. Sin is abounding in our nation. As Children of God, we must be holy and separate from sinners just as Christ was.

"For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners and exalted above the heavens."  -Hebrews 7:26

If you love God, you will keep his commandments.

"For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous."  -1 John 5:3
